Posted in Real Estate Blog On April 22, 2025

Earth Day isn’t just a day for grand gestures—it’s a reminder that we can make a difference every day. Living in Beverly Hills, where luxury and sustainability can often feel like opposites, I’ve found ways to incorporate simple yet effective practices into my daily routine that help protect our environment. Whether it’s reducing waste, conserving water, or making mindful choices when shopping, every small action adds up. These habits not only benefit our planet but also contribute to the overall quality of life in this beautiful city.

In honor of Earth Day, I wanted to share five everyday practices I’ve adopted that have helped me live a greener, more eco-conscious life in Beverly Hills. From sustainable dining options to eco-friendly home improvements, these simple shifts make a bigger impact than you might think. So, if you’re looking to make a positive change in your lifestyle, here’s how you can get started with just a few easy adjustments to your daily routine.

Why Earth Day Matters (Even in 90210)

Let’s be honest—when you think of Beverly Hills, you probably think of palm-lined streets, luxury real estate, and paparazzi-flashing red carpets. But let’s not forget that beneath the glam, we’re still Californians—and we love our planet.

As a Beverly Hills real estate agent, I’ve always believed in sustainability as more than just a trend. It’s a mindset. And in honor of Earth Day, I want to share 5 personal, daily habits I’ve adopted right here in Beverly Hills to make a real environmental difference. These aren’t pipe dreams—they’re simple practices that anyone can start today.

Practice 1: Driving Smart, Living Smarter

Yes, I live in the land of Lambos and luxury SUVs—but I’ve made a conscious shift. My daily driver is now a hybrid, and whenever I can, I walk to nearby meetings or hop on an e-bike. Beverly Hills is incredibly walkable, especially through gorgeous neighborhoods like the Beverly Hills Flats and the Bird Streets. It’s the perfect addition for my Earth Day rituals.

Not only does this cut down on emissions, but it’s also a killer way to scout the area for Beverly Hills houses for sale and get a real feel for the neighborhoods.

Practice 2: Greening Up My Real Estate Game

Real estate may not scream “eco-conscious,” but I’ve built green habits into my workflow. From digital paperwork to energy-efficient open house setups (think LED lighting, reusable signage, and filtered water instead of plastic bottles), I try to ensure my listings reflect modern sustainability standards. You don’t wanna miss out on the Earth Day shenanigans!

I also help buyers and sellers identify eco-upgrades that boost property value—because in today’s market, energy-efficient homes don’t just help the Earth, they help your ROI.

Practice 3: Supporting Local, Sustainable Businesses

Beverly Hills has no shortage of posh boutiques, but I make a point to support local businesses that practice sustainability—especially when shopping for client gifts, event catering, or even home staging props.

Whether it’s organic wine for a garden party or decor from a zero-waste home shop, every dollar spent locally and consciously makes a difference. And if you’re looking to Beverly Hills buy a house near the best sustainable spots, I’ve got the inside scoop.

Practice 4: Conscious Home Upgrades That Help the Planet

In my own home—and the homes I represent—I always advocate for simple green upgrades: smart thermostats, native landscaping, low-flow fixtures, solar panels, and sustainable flooring options like bamboo or reclaimed wood.

These small changes make a big difference over time and are huge selling points in today’s market. Eco-conscious buyers are on the rise, and showcasing green features can elevate your property above the rest.

Practice 5: Teaching Clients to Think Green, Too

Part of being a Beverly Hills realtor is educating clients—not just on square footage and views, but on smart ways to make their new homes more eco-friendly. I offer guidance on choosing sustainable materials, connecting them with green contractors, and identifying long-term cost-saving upgrades.

Whether you’re a Beverly Hills home buyer or a home seller, there’s power in making thoughtful, environmentally-conscious choices. And it’s my job to help you navigate them, and help them celebrate Earth Day.

What This Means for Beverly Hills Homeowners

Sustainability is no longer a niche—it’s a luxury. Today’s buyers are increasingly looking for homes that reflect a modern, mindful lifestyle. If your home includes eco-forward features, you’re already ahead of the game.

And if it doesn’t? You can still make small adjustments that boost your home’s value and lower your carbon footprint. I’d be happy to walk you through that.

A Greener Beverly Hills: Encouraging Sustainable Neighborhoods
One of the most exciting trends I’ve seen in Beverly Hills is the growing push for green spaces and eco-friendly developments within the city. Developers are increasingly focusing on sustainable building practices, incorporating green roofs, and using materials that reduce the environmental impact of construction. Additionally, there are growing efforts to create more community gardens and public spaces that prioritize sustainability. It’s becoming clear that the future of luxury real estate in Beverly Hills will involve not just extravagant homes, but also neighborhoods that promote environmental well-being. Sustainable living doesn’t have to be isolated to individual homes—it can transform entire communities, making our city not just beautiful but also eco-conscious.

Waste Not, Want Not: Recycling and Composting
In Beverly Hills, where waste management might seem like an afterthought, I’ve found that recycling and composting are essential habits to adopt. Many people don’t realize how much waste can be diverted from landfills with a little extra effort. Setting up a simple composting system in your backyard or apartment complex can dramatically reduce food waste, turning it into valuable soil for gardening. Additionally, ensuring that recyclables—like plastics, metals, and glass—are sorted properly keeps them from sitting in a landfill. It’s about thinking critically about waste and finding ways to repurpose or recycle what we use daily. By embracing these simple practices, we can reduce our carbon footprint and encourage those around us to follow suit.

Energy Efficiency Beyond the Home
Sustainability doesn’t stop with what’s inside your home. The exterior is just as important, especially when it comes to energy efficiency. I’m always encouraging my clients to think about their home’s insulation, the quality of their windows, and the type of landscaping they choose. For example, planting trees that provide natural shade around the home can reduce the need for air conditioning during the hot summer months. Incorporating xeriscaping, or drought-tolerant landscaping, can also conserve water—something particularly important in Los Angeles. The goal is to think of your property as a holistic ecosystem, where every decision made for your home can support the planet’s health as well.

The Ripple Effect: Inspiring Others to Go Green
One of the most rewarding aspects of living sustainably is inspiring others to follow suit. In a place like Beverly Hills, where luxury and status often define choices, I’ve seen how powerful it is when sustainability becomes trendy. Whether it’s a neighbor switching to solar panels or a local business adopting eco-friendly packaging, each choice sets off a ripple effect that encourages others to do the same. The more we normalize these eco-conscious practices, the more it will become ingrained in the fabric of our community. From schools to high-end restaurants, everyone has a role to play in building a greener future. By leading with example, we’re shaping a city that values both luxury and environmental responsibility.

Small Moves, Big Impact: What You Can Do

Here’s the thing: You don’t have to overhaul your entire life to be more sustainable. Start small. Walk to dinner once a week. Swap in LED bulbs. Plant drought-tolerant landscaping. Choose glass over plastic. These are easy wins—and they add up.

Plus, if you’re ever planning to list your home, these changes make your property way more attractive to environmentally-aware buyers.
