The origins of Brentwood can be traced back to 1846, when it was the first part of Rancho San Vicente and Santa Monica. However, after the Mexican-American War ended with America’s victory in 1848, this land went up for sale as separate parcels by one Sepulveda family member who liked their name so much that they just kept repeating “Brent+Wood” over and over again until there were dozens!
The town grew quickly during the California Gold Rush era, but people soon abandoned mining towns like these because life here wasn’t very pleasant: unbearably hot summers with no rain at all; harsh winters where your face would stiffen if you let even a drop touch them (and then sometimes not even that); long commutes to work if you were lucky enough to find a job; and extremely high crime rates.
The turning point for the city was in 1863, when one of the residents took it upon themselves to build a schoolhouse where all neighborhood kids could go for free!
It’s still there today at 1772 Griffith Ave., but I’m sure they charge fees now.
Another big change for the city was in 1905, when a powerful earthquake shook the region and totally leveled it. To say that people were shaken would be an understatement, and they immediately started to rebuild a new, stronger Brentwood. But not before a religious cult called the ‘Temple of Zolt’ won a city-wide election and became Brentwood’s first mayor!
It was in 1918, and it was an awesome time to be from Brentwood, as now they had their own radio station, AM 1060, with programming that included Art Bell every night!

Brentwood Los Angeles is a wealthy and affluent neighborhood home to many celebrities. The median household income for this beautiful and sprawling suburb is $127,650 per year, and the majority of residents hold bachelor’s degrees or higher. Paul Revere Charter Middle School and Magnet Center is a premier school on the Westside.

For universities, it is in close proximity to the University of California, Los Angeles, where they have over 40,000 students and have a world-renowned faculty.
UCLA is a world-renowned university with many Nobel Prize winners and alumni from all over the world. When you have a very diverse student body, it means your professors will be knowledgeable in specific areas of study, so students can create their own majors to get an education they won’t get anywhere else!
It is also close to the University of Southern California, which has a great medical program, and to Loyola Marymount University, which always places really well in the national rankings for their business school.
However, there are many other universities nearby that students can attend. For example, if you like to research and discover new things, then Caltech is only about 15 minutes away!
Caltech (the California Institute of Technology) has five Nobel Prize winners, including multiple alumni who have received the award. The school is much smaller than UCLA, with only about 2,000 total students; however, there are more than 50 professors working on groundbreaking research.
Just over the hill are the Claremont Colleges (Pomona College, Scripps College, Claremont McKenna College, Harvey Mudd College, and Pitzer College), which offer a small liberal arts college feel.
