Iconic Glamour and Vibrant Nightlife Define the Luxe Lifestyle in the Heart of Hollywood's Legendary Entertainment District.
The Sunset Strip runs for 1.5 miles along Sunset Boulevard, the 22-mile route that begins in Los Angeles’ midriff and runs through the hills to Highway 1, a beautiful road on the Pacific Ocean.
Between Sierra Drive and Crescent Heights Boulevard, the Strip is generally understood to be the portion of this magnificent highway that runs through Beverly Hills and Hollywood. Although it is not as well-known as the Las Vegas Strip, the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles is still one of the most famous areas in Los Angeles and is recognized internationally for its tourist attractions and businesses that have become historically significant in the music and entertainment industry.
Sunset Strip is synonymous with a lifestyle that pulses with energy and sophistication. By day, the boulevard’s sidewalks buzz with locals and visitors exploring chic boutiques, upscale dining, and cultural hotspots. As the sun sets, Sunset Strip transforms into a nightlife haven, with world-renowned clubs and iconic venues hosting unforgettable experiences.
The people of Sunset Strip form a diverse community that thrives on creativity and expression. From musicians and artists to business moguls and entertainment industry leaders, the residents and frequenters of Sunset Strip contribute to its reputation as a cultural epicenter. The lifestyle here is a perfect blend of upscale living, artistic influence, and the constant hum of the city’s heartbeat.
On a street like the Sunset Strip, where restaurants abound, having some recommendations can always be useful.
The Saddle Ranch Chop House (8371 Sunset Blvd) is one of my favorite lunch spots for the fantastic Tex-Mex food and generous portions, as well as the ambiance, which recreates Western stereotypes with live performances by country artists and a mechanical bull that you may try to control. To add to it, if you have some extra room, you may “assist digestion” with a lot of cotton candy.
The Rainbow Bar and Grill (9015 Sunset Blvd.) has a storied history as well as an ambiance that evokes nostalgia. It was also created by the legendary Elmer Valentine, which is another incentive to visit this establishment. Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio had their first date at this spot, while Vincent Minnelli, the property’s owner, proposed to Judy Garland here.
What the club is most proud of now, however, is that it has become an important platform for rock musicians and metal bands (particularly Motorhead’s Lemmy). This place becomes a tiny museum for rock fans thanks to memorabilia, photographs, and furniture.
Mel’s Drive-In (8585 Sunset Blvd.), a famous restaurant chain, is renowned in some films (e.g., Melrose Place and American Graffiti) for its distinctive logo and 1950s ambiance. Although the chain was founded in San Francisco, the Sunset Strip location is still a fantastic option for great American cuisine at reasonable prices.
Carney’s (8351 Sunset Blvd.) is another joint with a similar name, although it is more famous for its odd sign and the fact that it sits in an antique Union Pacific engine. It’s a fantastic spot to get a burger!
The first recorded name on the street was called Prospect Avenue on October 10th, 1875. On November 11th, 1882, it was officially named North Clark Street, and in 1910, it became North Doheny Drive. Around 1929, there was a transfer of land that named the street Sunset Boulevard and renamed Clark to Wilshire Boulevard. On June 1st, 1931, it was named Sunset Strip by the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce.
Sunset Strip’s history has been characterized by violence and notoriety for decades, but some real estate agents see great opportunity in this neighborhood.
Some have noticed that there are new, younger people living here. People are fixing up the buildings, bringing life back to this area.
As of October 2015, there are 316 residential properties on Sunset Strip that have an average value of $1.3 million. This is compared to 209 properties worth just over $1 million in circa 2009. This is a 51.6 percent increase in property values over a 5-year period.
The Sunset Strip property value has been increasing since 2011, and the housing inventory seems to be decreasing.
They have noticed that the prices are climbing. Inventory has been decreasing, and that drives the price up. People want to buy here now because they know that prices can only keep going up.
The number of transactions increased by 8 percent.
The “housing crisis” in the United States, which occurred around 2007, was an economic downturn. This caused many people to lose their homes and also decreased the number of housing transactions throughout the country. However, Sunset Strip was not significantly affected.
New luxury condos are being built on Sunset Strip. This is because many people want to live in the area. However, while this may be true, Sunny Strip is not known for its condos. Most people who are looking to buy homes are looking for single-family dwellings with swimming pools and beautiful backyards. Currently, only 1 percent of Sunset Strip real estate transactions occur within condos or cooperatives.
Many of the celebrities that used to reside on the Sunset Strip have left the area. The loss of these celebrities began about ten years ago when they started moving to West Hollywood. Since their departure, many homes have stayed empty for years, until more recently. With lower home prices and increased demand, Sunset Strip has become attractive for new buyers.
Sunset Strip is very popular with young celebrities that are just starting out in the entertainment industry. They want to be in close proximity to all of the clubs, restaurants, and shops without paying high prices for homes or condos. The houses on this strip are not built with family living in mind but instead are designed for entertaining guests. They are much more extravagant in size, design, and upkeep.
The strip is largely made up of single-family homes that were built in the 1920s and 1960s. During this time frame, there was a significant population boom due to the many actors that found success on Sunset Boulevard. Their homes have large lots with plenty of room for outdoor entertainment. The walkability of these neighborhoods makes them very desirable for millennials and older generations alike, who want to stay in the area but don’t want or need a large house or yard.
There are also a handful of multi-family apartment buildings scattered throughout the strip, which serve as an option for people wanting less upkeep and maintenance. With the exception of these apartment buildings, there have been very few new developments.
Perhaps one of the biggest drivers of the price increase is the scarcity of inventory available on the Sunset Strip. There are a number of factors that prevent new homes from being built on the Strip, but the biggest one is a lack of available land. While there are a few acres across the street from The Peninsula Hotel, most properties cannot be developed due to low elevations and high fire risk.
Another factor in Sunset Strip home prices increasing has been an influx of foreign buyers. In the last few years, it has been reported that a number of Chinese nationals have been purchasing homes on the Strip with cash, and some are rumored to be purchasing multiple properties. Foreign buyers tend to purchase the most expensive homes available on the market and also pay in full without financing or requiring an appraisal. This can skew demand higher for the priciest homes, further increasing prices.
